Message from the Alderman

I have been faithfully serving the residents and business community of the 27th Ward for eleven years. Since my early exposure to government and community, I pride myself on providing superior service to the voters that saw fit to elect me as their voice in local government.

I host two regularly scheduled Ward nights to adequately service every sector of this geographically-challenged ward. On Monday nights you can talk to me at the Near-North Sedgwick office. On Thursday nights I am in the Greater West Town Community at the Chicago Ave location. This level of service affords organization, business people and residents the opportunity to meet with me in a private one-on-one setting to voice their concerns.

My legislatives duties require me to sit on several City Committees. They include Buildings, Rules and Ethics, Education, Transportation, Public Way, Budget, Government Operations and Finance. I am the Vice-Chairman of the Health Committee.

The 27th Ward is one of the most diverse wards in the city of Chicago. It comprises many of Chicago's famous ethnic neighborhoods, including East Garfield Park, Henry Horner, Cabrini Green, portions of the Eckhart Park, West Haven, West-Loop, Greek Town, Old Town, West Humboldt Park, Randolph Fulton Market and the Industrial Council of Northwest Chicago (ICNC). I was first elected to serve as Alderman in 1995. My first re-map experience occurred during the last election cycle, from which I inherited the Greater West-Town Community and approximately 10,000 new voters.

It is my greatest joy to eagerly work with youth and seniors. I also enjoy helping homeowners feel safe and secure in their homes. Members of the business community and those desirous of re-locating to the ward can count on me to be fair-minded and objective.
